YouTube shorts introduction

However, this is not the only video format on YouTube – following the popularity of TikTok and Instagram Reels, a section specifically for short videos, appropriately called Shorts, was launched.

How long are YouTube Shorts exactly? These are videos up to 60 seconds, which provides a great opportunity to share funny moments or parts of videos on your channel that exceed this limit. Besides length, there are a few more requirements for a video to qualify as a Short:

  • vertical format – ideally, YouTube Shorts dimensions are 1920x1080p and a 9:16 aspect ratio;
  • title – up to 100 characters;
  • age restrictions – those are configured for each video separately.

You can create a short YouTube video right in the YouTube app, which also offers a handy editor with various features. However, not every editing feature is present. For example, if you want to upload a pre-existing video in a side-by-side comparison format, it's better to use another editor.

Our editing tool will help if that's the case! It works on phones and PCs, so you can upload your video to YouTube immediately after editing it. Working with it is also quite simple:

  1. Add files

    Open Clideo’s online Video Editor and click "Get started".

    Click "Upload" to add images, clips, audio – any media you need. You can upload them from the device, Google Drive, Google Photos, or Dropbox. Plus, the editor has ready-to-use audio, images and videos from built-in libraries.

  2. Edit the video

    If there are more than 10 files, drag them from "Uploads" to the preview area or timeline one by one and arrange their order. If fewer, they will appear in the timeline automatically.

    In the "Canvas" tab, set the 9:16 aspect ratio. Then, edit each file one by one: crop, trim, and apply other settings to make visual changes, as well as adjust the speed and volume of video and audio files.

    To have several videos or pictures in the frame simultaneously, place them at the same time point but on different lines of the timeline and place them as needed on the preview screen.

    To add captions, click any preset from the "Text" tab, then write captions and customize font, color, size, etc.

    After editing, click "Export" and choose the export option you like.

  3. Save the result

    Check the preview to see if you like the edited video. If it looks good, click "Download" to save your future YouTube short. To add more changes, click "Edit".
