Share YouTube video on Instagram in three steps
Due to the different video resolutions, crops, and lengths required by the two platforms, it can be tricky to get your clip look right on Instagram and you might need a lot of fiddling around with your original video’s presets and parameters. Who’s got time for that?
Well, there’s an easy way around that - which can be done completely online - and it doesn’t involve having to download any shady apps or expensive software. Here’s how…
Add your video
Make your way over to Clideo’s Youtube to Instagram Converter (yep, it works via your web browser!) and tap the ‘Choose file’ button.
A drop-down menu will help you add a video from Google Drive or Dropbox, in case you have your files stored over there. Select your clip and it will begin uploading to the editor.
Please note that all devices are supported by the tool, be it your Mac or Windows computer, iPhone or Android phone as well as the most popular video formats. It also lets you edit files up to 500 MB, totally free.
Edit and resize your clip
Once the editor opens, select the necessary preset or input custom dimensions for resizing your clip. Under the ‘Resize for’ heading, select Instagram and the post type you want your YouTube video to be formatted for. The tool will crop it accordingly.
Bear in mind that there are sizes prepared for almost all social media posts and ad types. Among them are Instagram Story and IGTV, as well as plenty of others if you’re wanting to convert to a different social media platform, such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter.
Next, adjust the clip with the zoom and position selectors, if required.
You might notice that you can convert a standard landscape video (such as a music video) into a portrait one and vice versa, but by doing so you may find that there are bars left at the top or the bottom.
To make them look a little more attractive, click on the ‘paint bucket’ icon in the bottom right of the video tools and select either the Blur option, a solid color preset, or one of your own using a hex code.
To finish, tap the ‘Resize’ button in the bottom right corner.
Download the result
Once processed, your new movie will be ready to be posted on Instagram. Give it a preview to make sure it’s exactly how you want it before you download it to your device by tapping the ‘Download’ button.
If you prefer, you can save it back to Dropbox or Google Drive, again, via the down-arrow which will open up the drop-down menu.
Need to make some changes? Simply hit the ‘Back to edit’ option to be taken right back to the editor.
