Why add background sound to video
Background sound is not only a song or music, it can also be a voiceover or a non-musical soundtrack. During online Twitch streams or FaceBook Lives, vloggers might not have a technical possibility to take care of the impeccable sound, but if you shoot your video clips in advance, it's highly recommended to record the visual and audial parts separately and then combine them.
Usually, smartphones' or vlogging platforms' inbuilt video editors are not advanced enough to do so. The other extreme, they can be way too complicated and not user-friendly. The help of third-party software or any free apps will come in handy.
Without false modesty, we dare to think Clideo will do the job. All our tools work online, so you can use them on an iPhone, smartphone, laptop, or any other device. Then, they allow uploading files up to 500 MB for free. Last but not least, the Clideo service is intuitively comprehensive, but if you still prefer manuals, we have a bunch of them.
How to find background music for video
The most evident option is recording your own audio. Other options are:
- SoundCloud
- Icons8 Fugue
- YouTube audio library
- Incompetech
- Musopen
- FreePD
- Pixabay
Don't forget to check out the copyrights policy of the chosen platform. Some of them allow only non-commercial usage, while others don't limit their users in any way.
How to add background music to video in Clideo Video Editor
Clideo's video editor is an ultimate all-in-one tool that allows you to modify your visuals in various ways.
Add files to the tool
Open Video Editor in any browser and hit the "Get started" button.
You'll be immediately transferred to the editing area, where you should click the "Upload" button.
You may pick up your assets from your device, Google Drive, Google Photos, or Dropbox.
Arrange files
First, take care of the visual part: it may be one or several recordings, GIFs, or photos for the future slideshow.
Your assets will automatically be transferred to the timeline below the editing canvas. If not, drag and drop them manually. If you have several visuals, you can place them as you wish: on the same line in a row or on different tracks to show them simultaneously.
Click the file thumbnail to make it active (outlined in yellow) in the editing canvas and drag its corner to change its size. This way, you can make a video-in-video or a side-by-side clip.
Make sure your audio duration matches the shooting length. Use yellow handles to shrink or copy and paste the clip to extend it. You can also split the file into two chunks: place the white playhead in the chosen spot and hit the "Split" icon.
You can find more details on file arranging in our Help section as well.
Edit files
Select the file in the timeline to open its editing options.
You can edit visuals in the following ways:
- Change the crop option
- Mirror an image vertically or horizontally
- Rotate a visual with a step 5 degrees
- Adjust color and brightness settings
- Blur an image
- Change the speed rate (only for videos)
When it comes to audio tracks, you can change the following options:
- Volume
- Fade in (the sound gradually becomes louder)
- Fade out (the sound gradually disappears)
There are a few more icons to the left of the editing pane that we have not described yet.
"Canvas" opens an editing pane for the whole project. Here you can choose an aspect ratio and a background color.
"Text" allows you to add captions. They will be placed on a separate track. Arrange them using our hints from the previous step, then go on editing.
- Select a font from the library. A hint! The drop-down list shows just the most popular ones, use the search field to find any other Google font you prefer.
- Choose its properties: color, weight, and size.
- Adjust line height and letter spacing.
- Select an alignment. You can also make your caption bold, italics, or capitalized.
- Pick up a background color for the text element.
Save the project
Hit the "Export" button in the top right corner and choose the output resolution. 480p, 720p, and GIF are available for all types of users, but 1080p and 2160p, marked with a little crown, are for the Clideo Pro subscribers.
Then click the "Continue" button, and while the tool is doing its job, fetch a nice cup of tea.
As soon as the processing is over, you can give your project the final run to ensure everything is as you want it to be. If you don't like the result, hit the "Edit" button and return to the previous step.
If you have nothing to complain about, download your project or save it to Google Drive or Dropbox.
How to add background sound to a video clip in the Add Music to Video tool
This tool has a more "niche" specialization as it's designed exclusively for combining video and audio tracks.
Add a video to the tool
Open the Add Music to Video tool and click "Choose file" to pick up your video first. If you want to import a file from Google Drive, Google Photos, or Dropbox, call the drop-down menu on the right side of the button.
Add music to background of the video
Once the video is added, you can see the preview screen with the video timeline and the options pane to the right.
Hit the "Add audio" button to the right of the player to upload an audio track. When it's processed, in the left box below the music title, set up the starting point if your audio should start a bit later (or you can drag the audiotrack in the timeline. Then you can adjust the volume of the freshly added audio and the initial video sound if there is any.
Hit the scissors icon if you need to trim the audio file.
Don't forget to choose the output format. Our tool offers a great variety of them, but if you're going to use your project as an Instagram post or a YouTube video, stick to the MP4 extension.
When fully done, hit the "Export" button.
Save the project
Nothing new here: this step is the same as for the ultimate Video Editor. Revise your voiced video and either return to editing or save it to your device or cloud storage account.
