How to add a color or image background to a video

A background is an intrinsic part of every visual project, without which a clip looks incomplete. It may be plain, one-colored, complex, with a sophisticated pattern, or even another image.

Modern editing tools allow you to add background to your project in several clicks or taps, without mastering long instructions and manuals. Our Video Editor is not just a background adder, it’s more like a whole editing studio in one tool.

With its help, you can create a background for videos from scratch, upload your own visual, pick up a ready solution from an inbuilt library, or just set up the aspect ratio with sidebars and choose their color.

The service works online in a browser, so software or version compatibility is not an issue. While it has a Clideo Pro subscription Plan, even free or unregistered users can use its functionality and create artistic projects.

  1. Upload your assets

Open Clideo’s Video Editor in any browser. Hit the "Get started" button to get to the editing pane.

Here you can upload visual and audio assets from your personal or cloud storage, pick them up from the inbuilt stock libraries, or record them right in the tool.

  2. Change the video background

The easiest way is just to change the background color. Open the "Canvas" tab on the toolbar, set up the aspect ratio, and choose the option you like: you can choose a solid color, choose a custom color or gradients.

Another option for your video — a background image. Pick up the one you like or just find the matching picture in the "Images" library under the "Background" tag. Make sure the chosen image takes the lowest timeline track so that other visuals overlap it. After that, match it to the project’s duration.

Perform any other editing actions you need: add other elements, click every asset to open its editing pane, and change its playback speed and volume (if applicable), color scheme, timing, rotation, etc.

  3. Save the project

When you are done, hit the "Export" button at the top right and choose the available output resolution (it will depend on your subscription type).

When the project is processed, give it the final run and either return to the previous screen, or download your video to the chosen location.
