How to convert to black and white any video

This palette is used to emphasize emotions such as sadness, nostalgia, and melancholy. Some famous "noir" films are shot in this style, and your clip may be no worse!

Now, to make a black-and-white video, you don't have to look for professional software, purchase a license, set everything up, and master lengthy manuals. There are plenty of online services that don't require any previous editing experience or technical skills.

Clideo tools work in a browser, so system compatibility is out of the question. Also, it has several modes, so if you don't want to subscribe to Clideo Pro or even register and log in, you still can avail of our black-and-white maker and other services.

You can use two tools to convert your video to black and white online.

How to make a clip black and white automatically

The first tool lets you quickly change the color with just one click. If you already have a video clip that should just be black and white, try out the Filter video tool.

  1. Upload the recording to the tool

Open Clideo’s Filters tool in any browser. Hit the "Choose file" button to pick up a recording from your device. Alternatively, call the drop-down menu on the right side of the button and import a file from Google Drive, Google Photos, or Dropbox.

  2. Apply a filter

You will see the preview of your video when it is uploaded to the tool.

There are two black-and-white filters in this tool: "Moose" and "Grayscale". You can also try out "Sepia"; it will make your project look quaint and old-fashioned in a good way.

Set the output format in the bottom left corner. While MOV and MP4 are the most compatible ones, you have a wide range of other options.

  3. Download the renewed video

As soon as the project is processed, give it the final run to make sure you like what you see. If so, download it to your device or cloud storage account. If you've changed your mind and want to try another filter, you can always return to editing.

How to make a clip black and white manually

The second tool has more options in addition to making your recording black-and-white. You can apply this setting to the entire video or just a part of it.

  1. Import a visual to Video Editor

Open our ultimate all-in-one Video Editor and head to the “Get started” button.

When you are transferred to the editing screen, hit the "Upload" option and choose a visual from your device, Google Drive, Google Photos, or Dropbox. This tool allows editing not only videos but also GIFs and still pictures.

You can also avail of our free video and photo libraries, embedded right into the editor, or record the video using your device camera, screen recording, or both.

  2. Adjust saturation

Select the file on the timeline to open its settings pane. Go to the "Adjust" tab and set the saturation to the lowest point possible. You can also increase the contrast to make the video even more expressive.

What is great about Video Editor is that you can do much more with your video: cut it, change its aspect ratio, adjust other settings, add text, and so on. And all this can be done in one tool.

  3. Save the project

When you are done, hit the "Export" button and choose the export settings, i.e., the output resolution.

The best options are available for Clideo Pro subscribers only.

Now you have to just give the video the final run to make sure it's impeccable and select the location where to save it.
