How to make video annotations online

Educational or promotional videos tend to be information-dense, so some particular details and crucial moments can go unnoticed if you don’t highlight them. Luckily, there are various ways to annotate your recording, making it way more informative, useful, and easy to follow.

Video annotations can also add some comic hints, ask for the viewers’ opinions, or call for action. With such elements, videos become more interactive and hands down more engaging.

Nowadays, you don’t have to download and install video annotation software, as there are plenty of browser solutions. For example, Clideo’s online annotation tool, an ultimate video editor, which is compatible with all device types and operation systems.

There are several types of annotation options available in the tool: text, visuals, arrows, and stickers, including animated ones. Let’s sort out how to use each of them.

  1. Upload or create a video

Open the Clideo’s Video Maker in any browser and hit the "Get started" button.

As soon as you are transferred to the editing pane, you can upload your recording from your device or cloud storage accounts, record it from scratch right in the tool, or make it out of elements from inbuilt stock libraries.

Edit the video as you need, trim or cut out the parts you do not need, set up its aspect ratio, and adjust other characteristics.

  2. Add another video or image

You can add another video or picture in the same way as the main recording from the previous step. Place the visual to a new timeline so that it overlaps the main footage, and adjust the timing. Select the file on the editing canvas, alter its size, and place it where needed.

Click the “duplicate" at the top left of the timeline icon to produce as many copies of the element as you need.

  3. Add text annotations to your video

Hit the "Text" tab, choose the caption preset, and place it where needed. Then click the captions element to open its settings and enter the annotation comment, set up the font, alignment, background color, and other parameters.

  4. Add arrows or other elements to your video

Open the "Elements" tab on the left toolbar of our annotation maker and pick up an arrow or another shape to highlight the chosen point. You can also find animated stickers, emojis, and GIFs in the same section.

Click the "See all" link to see all the assets in the relevant section and use the search icon and keywords to find the one you need for your video.

  5. Save your video with annotations

As soon as you are done, click the "Export" button at the top right and select one of the available output formats.

After processing, save the project to the chosen location. Even at this step you still can return to the editing panel and continue working on the project.
