How to transcribe an MP4 video to text

For many people, video content is a go-to format to get information. However, often, if it is covering an interesting topic in detail, viewing can take a lot of time, and the lack of subtitles will not allow you to watch it without sound in noisy places. In such cases, turning a video into a transcript will be useful.

MP4-to-text transcription can serve different purposes apart from personal use. For example, one can change their videos to blog posts to attract additional audiences. Also, in educational videos or interviews, the text version makes it easier to find and analyze key information, which is useful for research or data analysis.

Are you working on such a project and are looking for a video-to-transcript converter to make it easier? Our tool will help you out! Using it, you can transcribe video for up to 30 minutes to text for free, as well as download the transcription as a text file or embed it in the video as subtitles. All of this only requires a few simple steps!

  1. Import the clip

Open Clideo’s MP4 to Text converter and click "Choose file" to upload the MP4 video you want to turn to a transcript. You can also hover over the downward arrow on the right to pick a cloud storage if the file is there.

  2. Turn MP4 to text

Specify the language used in the video and click "Start Transcription".

When the transcription is generated, you can edit it in various ways. As such, you can click any text box on the right side of the editor and correct text if needed.

If you plan to embed the transcription into the video as subtitles, you can also specify the time when it should appear and change the way the transcription looks in the "Styles" tab. There, you can change the font and set its size, and position in the player, as well as apply colors to the letters and their background or outline.

  3. Download the transcription

Once you finish editing, save the transcription as a text file – you can do so by clicking "↓TXT" or "↓SRT" in the "Subtitles" tab. By the way, after that, you can even translate the text if needed and save it too.

And if you want to put the transcription into video as captions, it’s also possible! Before that, you can change the format of the video using the option in the lower left corner if necessary. Then, click "Export video", wait till it is processed, and download it.
