How to edit videos for your vlog

While reading various editing tips for YouTube, you may have noticed that the process requires using different, sometimes opposite things, depending on the type of video. So how to start editing videos if you’re a beginner in vlogging?

In the past, post-production was an expensive process that required professional equipment and the work of specialists. But nowadays, everyone can edit video on their own, and for a good result, you don’t even need any best vlog editing software, because there are many other, more affordable options.

If you’re looking for such a vlog editor, you can use our online editing tool! Even if you have no previous experience, it has an intuitive interface and is beginner-friendly. And if you’d still need help, look at the following steps:

  1. Add files

Open Clideo’s Online Video Editor and click "Get started".

Click the + icon to import your files from your device, Google Photos, Google Drive, or Dropbox.

  2. Edit the video

To start editing, make sure all the files you need are already in the timeline. If not drag them to the timeline or preview area from the "Uploads" tab.

Make sure the aspect ratio is suitable – for YouTube, it’s 16:9. It can be applied in the “Canvas” tab if you don’t know the exact ratio of your video.

Then, you may need to trim the unneeded parts of the video. To do so, place the playhead where you need to cut it, then click “Split” at the top left of the timeline and repeat at every point in the video where it’s required. To remove unwanted parts, select them and click “Delete”.

There are various options to change the look of the video – you can adjust colors, apply blur or transparency, etc. To do so, simply select a file in the timeline and apply the required setting in the tab above.

To add music or sound effects, simply place the audio file above the video fragment where it should play. Then, adjust the sound using the “Volume” slider to make sure it’s on the same level as the video and other audio parts. You can also click on the file and apply fade-in and fade-out effects to make it begin and end gradually.

If you want to add captions, click + on any preset in the “Text” tab or drag it to the preview or timeline. Then, write the text and edit it according to your taste.

When you finish editing, click “Export” and choose your preferred export option.

  3. Save the result

Watch the preview to see if everything looks good in the final video. To add changes, click “Edit”, otherwise, download your creation to your device or cloud storage.
