How to replace sections of audio in a video file
Many YouTube videos choose to replace audio track with another one to create a different atmosphere or reference famous memes. Some musicians do a similar thing, changing the low-quality sound of a live performance to the one with better quality or to different versions of the songs altogether.
However, sometimes it's necessary to replace not the entire audio in the video but only some parts of it. There can be many reasons — editing live streams into separate videos and removing possible copyrighted songs from them, replacing obscene language with other audio bits, correcting sound defects, etc. In such cases, it is often necessary to cut out these parts rather than cover them with other sounds, and many apps with the option to separate audio from video help with this.
Are you also looking for such an app? Try our online editing tool! It allows you to easily separate audio from video on Android and iPhone, as well as on PC devices, and edit the sound and other aspects of your video right in the browser. And it's not hard to do at all:
Upload files
Open Clideo's Online Video Editor and click "Get started".
Then click on the white "+" button to add the media files you need from your device. You can upload them from your cloud storage as well.
If you'd like to use some sound effects but don't have them, you can search for suitable audio bits in our stock library. Just click "Audio" in the left-side navigation menu.
Replace parts of audio
First, you need to extract the audio to keep the video intact. To do so, click the video thumbnail in the timeline, go to the "Audio" section in the settings tab at the top, then click "Extract audio". After that, you will see the audio track in the timeline.
To define the audio segment that will be replaced, place the playhead at the starting time point, use the "Split" option, then do the same at the end time point. Select this segment by clicking it and press "Delete" to remove it.
To add another audio file or sound effect to the video, simply drag it into the gap where the deleted segment was. If the new sound is longer than the gap, it will be automatically trimmed to fit it. Otherwise, you might need to copy the short sound multiple times.
Regarding other editing options, you can adjust the aspect ratio of the video in the "Canvas" tab if you want to post the video on a specific social media page. Also, after selecting a video file in the timeline, you can change color, transparency, speed, etc. In the "Text" tab, you can add and customize captions if needed as well.
When you finish editing, click "Export" and choose the option that suits you.
Download the video
Watch the preview to see how the final result looks. If everything is good, click "Download" to save it to your device or cloud storage. And if you want to change something, click "Edit" to return to the editor.
