Instagram video ad specs

A human being is such a cunning creature, that they can turn everything into money, and Instagram is no exception.

As for the specs, they are absolutely the same as for the regular in-feed.

Carousel

A side-scrolling row of 2-10 short videos, demonstrating all the peculiarities and features of a product.

  • aspect ratio: 1:1;
  • dimensions: from 600 x 600 to 1080 x 1080 (recommended);
  • file size limit: 4GB;
  • file extensions: MP4 and MOV;
  • maximum length: 1 minute;
  • maximum frame rate: 30fps.

Instagram stories

Stories may be either regular in feed (organic posts) or commercials. Ads show up among other users’ videos naturally, they don’t irritate the viewers and can last up to 15 secs. There is no exact recommended resolution, as stories fit the smartphone screen, so their size depends on the user, not on your choice.

  • aspect ratio: 9:16, 16:9, 4:5;
  • dimensions: as high as possible, at least 600 x 1067 pixels;
  • file size limit: 4GB;
  • file extensions: MP4 and MOV;
  • maximum length: 15 secs.

Reels

It’s a relatively new Instagram feature, introduced in 2020. Reels are something between Stories and IGTV: they are more elaborated and artistic than the former, but shorter and simpler than the latter. Like TikTok videos, Reels have background audio applied.

  • aspect ratio: 9:16;
  • recommended dimensions: 1080 x 1920 pixels. In feed they are displayed in 4:5 aspect ratio with 1080 x 1350 dimensions;
  • file size limit: 4GB;
  • file extensions: MP4 and MOV;
  • maximum length: 30 secs.

IGTV

Instagram TV has a lot in common with Stories, but it does not disappear in 24 hours and stay forever (until the owner deletes it). Also, this option allows to upload videos up to 60 mins long, turning a company’s account almost into a real TV-channel.

  • aspect ratio: 9:16;
  • dimensions: 1080 x 1920 (recommended);
  • file size limit: 650 MB for short videos (less than 10 mins), 3.6GB for long ones;
  • file extensions: MP4 only;
  • length: 15 secs - 60 minutes.

Facebook video specs

Facebook is rather complicated (sorry, Mark!). There are several possible types of video content, and each of them has its own specs.

Shared post video

The most common type of Facebook videos, so-called regular feed. Here are the general Facebook vertical and horizontal video specs:

  • aspect ratio: 16:9 for Landscape and Portrait with included links, and 9:16 for Portrait without links;
  • mobile version aspect ratio: 2:3 for both;
  • recommended dimensions: 1280 x 720 pixels for both; with minimum width 600 pixels;
  • file size limits: 4GB;
  • preferable file extensions: MP4, MOV (in fact, almost all the formats are accepted);
  • maximum video length: 2 hours (120 mins.);
  • maximum frame rate: 30fps.

360 panoramas

There are slightly different demands:

  • aspect ratio: 2:1;
  • dimensions: no more than 4096 x 2048 pixels;
  • file size limit: 1.75GB;
  • preferable file extension: MP4;
  • maximum video length: 40 mins;
  • maximum frame rate: 60 fps.

Stories

Stories have another story (nice pun, isn’t it?):

  • aspect ratio: 1.91 to 9:16;
  • dimensions: 500 x 500 pixels or more;
  • file size limits: 4GB;
  • preferable file extensions: MP4, MOV;
  • maximum video length: 15 secs;

Facebook video ad specs

Fb advertising is one of the most effective and affordable ways to promote a product. Good news: Zuckerberg kindly offers us at least 6 types of sponsored videos. Bad news: all of them have their own limits and specifications.

Desktop news feed link video

In this case, Facebook video post specs do not depend on the position of the ad (in feeds or on the right sidebar):

  • aspect ratio: 16:9 Landscape and 1:1 Square.
  • dimensions: at least 600 x 315 pixels for Landscape and 600 x 600 for Square; recommended: 1280 x 720.

The rest is the same as for commonly shared videos: File size limit 4GB, recommended extensions MP4 and MOV, maximum length 2 hours, and maximum frames 30 fps.

Carousel

Facebook Carousel lets the company show up to 10 ever-changing images, so it is considered to be 10 times more effective than any other advertisement.

  • aspect ratio: 16:9 Landscape and 1:1 Square;
  • dimensions: at least 600 x 315 pixels for Landscape and 600 x 600 for Square; recommended: 1080 x 1080;
  • file size limit: 2.3GB;

Canvas video ad

Instant experience

  • maximum length: 90 secs, preferably - 20 secs.

Twitter video specs

About 330 million active Twitter users are waiting for being seduced to buy your product. Luckily, commercial videos’ specs are absolutely the same as for regular in-feeds, nothing spectacular.

Youtube video specs

The most popular video portal among users of all the ages, YouTube is used to entertain, educate, promote goods, self-advertise, kill time and whatever else. It would be a mortal sin not to take advantage of such splendid possibilities. Video specs are pretty complicated, though, let’s sort them out.

Standard video player

YouTube automatically frames uploaded videos and accepts all the most common formats, so that everybody could upload video fast and seamlessly.

  • aspect ratio: 16:9 and 4:3;
  • dimensions: from 426 x 240 to 3840 x 2160;
  • file size limit: 128GB;
  • file extensions: MP4, MOV, MPEG, AVI, WMV, FLV, 3GP, WebM;
  • maximum length: 12 hours.

YouTube video ad specs

We enjoy tons of free quality content on YouTube only because huge corporations and tiny enterprises sponsor them, inserting their ads right into videos.

There are several types of YouTube advertisements. Their specs are the same as for regular content, but the video length depends on the ad type:

  • skippable – you are not obliged to watch it until the end and can skip in a few seconds (max – 12 hours);
  • non-skippable – almost the same, but the users are forced to watch full 15 seconds (max – 15-20 secs, sometimes 30 secs);
  • mid-roll – those visuals, which are always popping up at the most thrilling moment of the film (at least 30 secs);
  • bumper – a short 6-second-long video, played before the main content (max 6 secs);
  • display ad - a small static “frame” in the right side column, run with a click. Maximum video length is 12 hours, recommended resolution: 300 x 250 or 300 x 60 pixels.

YouTube shorts

A relatively new feature, introduced in 2020. As the very title implies, it’s a short video, which can be reached and edited from any device.

  • maximum length: 60 secs.

Linkedin video specs

Designed for recruiters looking for new employees, and specialists willing to change positions or find a job, Linkedin doesn’t use lots of video content indeed. But video CVs are becoming more and more trendy, so let’s have a closer look at their specs.

Shared video

  • aspect ratio: 1:2.4 and 2.4:1;
  • dimensions: from 256 x 144 to 4096 x 2304 pixels;
  • file size limit: 5GB;
  • file extensions: ASF, AVI, FLV, MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, MKV, WebM;
  • maximum length: 10 mins;
  • maximum frame rate: 60 fps.

Video ads specs

Commercial videos for campaigns have slightly different limits:

  • dimensions: from 480 x 360 to 1920 x 1080 pixels;
  • file size limit: 200MB;
  • file extensions: MP4;
  • maximum length: 30 mins;
  • recommended length: 15 secs;
  • maximum frame rate: 30 fps.

Snapchat video specs

Snapchat is all about video – mostly with various lenses, filters and special effects. No wonder it is one of the fastest-growing and demanded social media among youth. The majority of content consists of short 10-second videos, used for both personal sharing and commercial promoting.

Long-form ads

The main format for commercial videos. Specs are similar with the difference in:

  • aspect ratio 9:16 or 16:9;
  • size limit 1GB;
  • length at least 15 seconds, no maximum.

Pinterest video specs

Initially, created for sharing only images, Pinterest keeps expanding and evolving. Shared organic video specs:

  • aspect ratio: 9:16 Portrait and 1:1 Square;
  • dimensions: 600 x 600 for Square, 600 x 900 for Vertical;
  • file size limit: 2GB;
  • file extensions: MP4 and MOV;
  • maximum length: 30 mins;
  • maximum frame rate: 25 fps.

TikTok video specs

TikTok is all about videos. Luckily, users don’t have to sort out lengthy manuals and adjust their videos to make them meet TikTot requirements, as the content is usually recorded, not uploaded. Hence, the majority of specs are set automatically.

Organic videos

  • recommended dimensions: 1080 x 1920 px;

  • file extensions: MP4 and MOV;

TikTok ads
