How to make an instructional video with screen recordings
Although many people use electronic devices, it is impossible to know how each of the countless applications or websites works. But those familiar with them can make screen-capturing video instructions to visually demonstrate how tasks are performed, making learning easier and increasing effective communication.
However, anyone who is going to make how-to videos for the first time is wondering – how to do screen recording? Some devices have this built-in feature, but often users have to look for external ways to help with this task.
If you are also interested in how to record a video easily, try our online video editor! This is a tool that allows you to not only capture the screen for your tutorial video, but also add text or visual cues to it to make the process clearer.
Record the screen
Open Clideo’s Online Video Editor and click "Get started".
To take a video of your screen, in the navigation sidebar, click "Record", then "Screen". If prompted, allow your browser to access your microphone – you can record audio both from the device and your own voice simultaneously. And if you can’t or don’t want to record your voice, you can add subtitles or a text-to-speech track later.
To start the recording, click the red circle and select the part of your screen you want to record in the pop-up window. It could be a tab, a single app window or the entire screen. Tick the "Share system audio" checkbox if you want to also include the audio from your recorded screen. Then, click "Share" to start recording.
Create the instructional video by performing all the steps you want to show. Once you’re done, return to the Clideo tab and click the "Stop" button.
In the next pop-up window, you can rename, redo, and add your video straight to your project timeline or the "Media" tab. The screen and voice recordings will be added as two separate files in both cases.

Now it is time to edit your video. You can remove the part that you do not need, change the canvas settings, adjust colors, etc.
You can also look through the "Elements" tab on the left in case you need to add some visual pointers like arrows. You can adjust their position in the player and tweak the available settings in the options tab, e.g., set the duration, change color, etc.
If you want to create a voice-over, simply click "TTS" in the navigation sidebar and choose the language, voice type, and tone. After that, paste or manually type in the text you want – remember that the maximum number of characters is 500 – and click "Play" to listen to the result. If you like it, click "Generate", and the audio will appear on the timeline so you can place it wherever you need.
And if you want to add subtitles instead or along with the voice-over, select any preset from the "Text" tab, write everything you need, and then customize the font, color, size, etc.
When you finish editing, click "Export" at the top right and choose your preferred option.
Save the result
After the video is processed, you can check the preview to see how it looks. If everything is good, click "Download" to save it to your device or cloud storage. The "Edit" button will bring you back to the editor to improve your project.
