How to resize a photo for Instagram online
If you’re looking to resize an image for Instagram without cropping so that it sits on the image-sharing platform perfectly, you might find that doing so isn’t so easy.
First off, you’ll have to fiddle around in the editing tool on your phone to get the right fit, which is never straightforward...nor accurate. Or you could find an app to do the perfect crop for you, but you’ll probably have to pay for it if it’s legit.
However, there’s a much easier way around it, via the Clideo’s tool that works for free and online from your web browser. It allows you to resize a picture for Instagram or any other social network by choosing the necessary post type from aspect ratio presets. That’s even easier than it sounds!
Upload your image
Make your way over to Clideo’s Resizer tool. You’ll be greeted by a blue ‘Choose file’ button. Now, there are several ways you can upload your pic for Instagram:
- Tap the button in the centre and you’ll be given the option to upload directly from your device.
- Hit the down arrow on the right side of the button and choose to upload your file from a Dropbox or Google Drive cloud account if it is saved there.
Whichever option you choose, your picture will automatically load and begin processing.
Please note that all devices are supported by the tool, be it iPhone or Android phone and even desktop machines. You can also resize files up to 500 MB, for free.
Resize the photo for Instagram
Once the editor opens, select the necessary preset or input custom dimensions for resizing your image.
Under the ‘Resize for’ heading, select Instagram and you’ll be given a plethora of possible post presets to choose from, such as ‘Stories’ or ‘Feed landscape’, and many more.
Handy tip! There are sizes prepared for almost all social media posts and ad types in the tool, including different social media platforms like Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter. So feel free to use this tool for resizing images (or video!) for other platforms.
Next, you can adjust how the image appears via ‘Crop Options’. You then have two options: you can automatically ‘Fit’ the image to the post parameters so that all of it can be seen (but this will leave a border around the edges), or if you want to crop without border, tap the ‘Fill’ option.
If you choose to keep the borders, you can use the ‘paint bucket’ icon to make them look better by either using the Blur option or changing their colours entirely by selecting a solid colour preset. You can even use one of your own using a hex code if you like.
You can also adjust the photo within the frame with the zoom and position selectors if required.
To finish, tap the green ‘Resize’ button at the bottom.
Download the resized photo
Once processed, your new image will be ready to be posted on Instagram. Download it to your device by tapping the green ‘Download’ button. Again, you can save it back to Dropbox or Google Drive if preferred via the down-arrow which will open up a drop-down menu.
If you need to make some changes, just hit the ‘Back to edit’ option to be taken right back to the editor without needing to start over. And that’s it - you’re all done!
