How to cut video for Instagram
We don’t always record short videos that can meet any social media requirements. With Instagram it’s even harder because the maximum length depends on where you want to post it: Feed, Stories or IGTV. That’s where video cutters come in handy.
Before you start trimming your video, you should know the set time limit:
- For your Instagram profile it’s from 3 to 60 seconds.
- For Instagram Stories it’s 15 seconds.
- For IGTV it’s from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. However, if your account is verified, you can upload a video up to 1 hour. Please, make sure your video is vertical, otherwise you won’t be able to upload it. If your video is horizontal, you can use the Clideo’s Online Video Resizer - just choose the IGTV preset and it’ll make it vertical by fitting with borders.
- And just so you know, the Live Video can be no longer than 1 hour.
As you may notice, it has not only the maximum length but also the minimum one. So if the part of the video you want to share is too short, you can use the Online Video Looper by Clideo to make your video longer by repeating the necessary part any number of times.
So, let’s get started:
Choose the necessary video
First of all, open the Online Video Cutter. Here you can select a video from any of your devices (it can be iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows). If you prefer to store your files in a cloud, there is a possibility to add a video from your Dropbox or Google Drive account.
Cut the video
Select the part you want to keep. You can do it by moving the green markers or by typing the time. When you’ve decided on that, you may want to add fade in or / and fade out effects. What are they? The fade-in and fade-out effects make a video start / end gradually and slowly from / to the black screen, they are usually used together.
Please note that Instagram doesn’t accept every format, so if your video has a rare or old format, please convert it to MP4 or MOV. The good news is you can do it right here in our program: just select the necessary format under the player.
Now click the Cut button and wait a few moments while the program is doing its thing.
Download the video
That’s all done! Save the trimmed video back to your device or cloud storage and then share on Instagram as planned!
