How to take sound out of video

Sometimes you want to share a video with friends, but the audio track in it may be distracting or create possible privacy issues. You may also want to replace it with a different track or simply send a video without sound altogether. In all cases, you need to know how to remove sound from video. There are several ways:

How to mute video on iPhone

On iPhone, there's a quick way to remove sound from a video using the Photos app. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Photos app, then find the video you want to mute and tap its thumbnail.
  2. With the video open, tap "Edit" in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. If there is sound, a yellow speaker icon will appear at the top left. Touch it to turn off the sound.

Unlike other speaker icons on iOS, this one isn't just a mute button. Tapping it removes the audio track from the video itself, so it will already be muted when you share it.
