What is speed ramping
Slow down the scene a bit, and it will become more dramatic. You let the viewers see the smallest details frame by frame (provided your film is at least 60fps and you used high shutter speed when recording it). Also, the change of speed can indicate that this very piece is so important that one must be all eyes not to miss anything. And one will be!
Speed up the footage and you will get action, drive, or you can use it as a cool transition shot. And what about becoming a star of your own clip a la the silent movie?
Experiment with different speed options and find the one that delivers your message most effectively. Luckily you do not need to download a professional software for that, as there is an online tool that allows you to easily change speed. Let’s see how it works.
Add your clip
Open any browser and go to Clideo’s Online Time Remapping tool. You can upload your movie from your device, whether it is a computer, tablet, or phone. Just hit the big blue “Choose file” button. Any format will work perfectly.
Online videos can also be added easily. Under the drop-down arrow, select Google Drive or Dropbox. Just remember, to keep it all free, your file should be up to 500 MB.
Change the speed of your video
In the right pane, you will be able to speed up or slow down. Use the slider to manually adjust the speed in small increments of 0.05x. Your maximum speed could be 4x, which is 4 times faster than the original video. Or just hit one of the predefined speed buttons, say, “2x”, to speed everything up, both your movie and your workflow.
Pay attention to the preview area — all your changes are instantly displayed over there. No need to wait for hours and guess what will be the result. In the bottom left panel, you will see the actual final duration of your film.
In addition to that, if your original clip is not in the right format, call the drop-down menu to select the one you need. When your initial file type is fine, don’t do anything.
By default, the film will be muted, so that you could later add any dramatic audio. To keep the sound, uncheck the “Mute video” box.
So when everything is perfectly adjusted, hit the “Export” button in the bottom right corner. The processing won’t take long.
Get your Oscar
When done, the final preview of your remapped video will be displayed. Double-check that it has the wow effect you planned.
Click “Download” to save the new clip back to your device, or, under the drop-down arrow, select Dropbox or Google Drive to have your masterpiece stored over there.
The “Edit” button will take you to the previous screen to try different settings. And if you have other videos to speed ramp, click the “Start over” link.
