Extract Audio from MP4 Online
How many times did you think: such a great song or dialogue in a video, if only I could get the audio-only version separately… Well, actually, you can! Learn how to extract the soundtrack from an MP4, MOV, AVI file, or any other video in just in several clicks!
If you want to save only the sound from an MP4 video, you can extract the audio track and export it as a separate file, such as MP3 or WAV. This is useful for saving music, dialogue, voiceovers, or sound effects without keeping the video.
There are several ways to extract audio from MP4 files. You can use an online tool, a media player such as VLC, or dedicated software such as Audacity or FFmpeg. The best option depends on your needs, device, and preferred output format.
3 ways to extract audio from video
Audio extraction means separating the audio track from a video file and saving it as a standalone audio file. Depending on the method you choose, you may also be able to select the output format, adjust quality settings, or trim the track before saving it.
There are three main ways to extract audio from MP4 videos.
- Online audio extractor: Browser-based tools let you upload an MP4 file and convert it to formats such as MP3, WAV, or AAC. They are convenient because they do not require software installation.
- Media player: Some media players, such as VLC Media Player, can extract audio from video files. This option is free and works offline, but it may require a little familiarity with the software.
- Dedicated software: Programs such as Audacity and FFmpeg offer more advanced options, including batch processing, audio editing, and broader format support. These tools are useful for more complex tasks but may require more technical knowledge.
How to extract audio from MP4 files with Clideo
If you want a quick and simple method, an online tool can be the easiest option. Clideo's Audio Extractor lets you extract audio from MP4 files in a few steps without installing additional software. It works in a browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android devices.
-
Upload your MP4 file
Open Clideo's Audio Extractor in any browser and hit the "Choose file" button to simply upload your MP4 from your device. Alternatively, use the drop-down menu and upload a file from cloud storage, or just drag and drop your file onto the page.

The audio stream will be extracted automatically, and you'll be able to edit it in the next step.
-
Configure extraction settings
If you need the whole track, select it by moving the sliders at the beginning and the end points. To make the "Export" button active, cut at least 0.10 seconds from any side.

If you want only part of the audio, set the timing manually or move the sliders to select the section you need. Then choose one of the available options:
"Extract Selected" to keep only the selected part of the track.

"Delete Selected" to remove the selected part while keeping and merging the rest.

You can also enable "Fade in", "Fade out", or "Crossfade" to make your final audio smoother.
Next, choose the output format that best matches your needs. Formats such as WAV are suitable for higher-quality audio, while formats such as MP3 are better for smaller file sizes and everyday use.
Select your preferred output format from the drop-down menu at the bottom (you may choose from 15 common formats, including quite rare ones, such as SPX, MID, AAC, and others).

Then click "Export" and wait for the file to process. The actual processing time depends on your Internet connection speed and the original video file size.
-
Download just your audio track
When the file is ready, save the extracted audio to your device or upload it to cloud storage. If you want to make more changes or extract another part from the same video, click "Edit" to return to the previous screen.

If you want to use the extracted soundtrack in another project, you can continue editing it in Clideo's Video Editor. If you are a Pro user, you can just click the tool icon under the "Continue" to continue your project in another tool.
