Caption Creator

Add captions for a video manually or with SRT

Free and Online Video Caption Maker

Have you ever seen auto-generated subtitles on YouTube? Usually, they are no more than illegible nonsense, which has nothing in common with the original text.

Nothing can compare with elaborated and manually-created subtitles. To add them you need a free online caption maker, and luckily, we have one!

Our tool has many merits, but let’s just mention a couple of them:

  • Extreme safety. Clideo stores your project for 24 hours only, during which you can download it to different devices. You can delete your video from the site immediately after having finished working with it.
  • Online. To use our tool you don’t have to download and install any caption maker software or app, put up with endless advertisements and waste the precious memory of your smartphone.

How to create captions in three steps

  1. Upload a video

Hit a big blue button to select a video from your personal device. If you want to use content stored online, call a drop-down menu on the right side of the button and choose one of two options:

Upload a video to the Caption Maker
    • Import files from your Google Drive cloud storage account.
    • Import files from your Dropbox cloud storage account.

  2. Add captions

If you have a ready .SRT file, just upload it by clicking the “Upload .SRT” button. If you are just to create subtitles, click “Add manually”. Whatever you choose, you’ll be transferred to the same editing screen.

Select a way to add subtitles in the Caption Maker

Write subtitles in the boxes on the right side from the player. Set their timing manually or by dragging a ready caption along the timeline below the video.

Add subtitles in the Caption Creator

When all the subtitles are ready, click the “Styles” tab and choose the background colour, font, size, colour, position and alignment of the text.

Change font, its color and other settings in the Caption Maker

Don’t forget to set the output format. Our tool offers all the most popular video extensions, but if you’re going to post your edited clip to social media, you’ll need MOV or MP4.

Change format of the subtitled video in the Caption Maker

If you plan to use our caption creator for Instagram or Twitter videos, you may want to change their size with our Video Resizer. It’s the easiest way to meet different social media specs, as our tool has size presets for each of them.

When you are ready, you can download the .SRT file without the video. If you need the “full package”, click “Create” and let your project get processed.

Please note that the tool adds hard subtitles only. Hard subtitles are burned in, or hard coded, as an overlay over your video and cannot be turned off or on later in a player.

  3. Download the result

Have a quick preview to get sure that you’re happy with the result. If so, download it to your personal device or cloud storage. If not, just come back to editing and keep working.
